Hydrogen storage alloys are the materials that can absorb and desorb a large amount of hydrogen reversibly under certain temperatures and pressures. The equation of the chemical reaction is as follows,
M + n/2 H 2 → MHn + ΔH
where M is the hydrogen storage alloys, MHn is the metal hydrides formed when hydrogen is absorbed, ΔH is the reaction heat. The right reaction is exothermic and hydrogen is absorbed, the reversible reaction is endothermic and hydrogen is desorbed. The pressure of absorbed and desorbed hydrogen rises with the rise in temperature, which is expressed in the following equation,
  lnP H2 = Δ H/RT - Δ S/R
  The principle of hydrogen storage & purification devices is, utilizing the alternative hydrogen absorbing ability of hydrogen storage alloys inside the devices, hydrogen is absorbed from the impurity -included hydrogen gas and metal hydrides are formed, then the gaseous impurities concentrated in the reactor space of the devices are blown away by hydrogen gas, so the hydrogen gas inside the devices can be purified to the purity of 6N, as shown in the figure.
The devices can be used as purifying devices in which the purified hydrogen is released and impurity-include hydrogen gas is purified again. The devices also can be multi-functionally used as purifying, storing and transporting devices in which the purified hydrogen is continuously stored, or stored and transported.

2 . Specifications and Performance


  This product can absorb and desorb hydrogen at the room temperature and relatively low pressure, and more than 90% quantity of the hydrogen stored in it can be desorbed at relatively steady pressure in very steady hydrogen gas current. The hydrogen absorbing and desorbing pressure and the desorbing flow of the product depend on the users' demand. The typical value of the product is, 1.2wt. % as the hydrogen storage density per unit weight, and 30kgH 2 /m 3 . as the hydrogen storage density per unit volume. Through the use of the product, the ordinary hydrogen can be purified into the ultra high pure hydrogen of 6N purity, which indicates that the technology of the product has reached the international advanced level.
The specifications of the product are defined with the amount of the desorbing hydrogen in standard state, which is from several liters to several hundreds of cubic meters. The shape of the product is generally cylindrical, and it can be adjusted with the users? demand.

3 . Application


  The application of the devices to the purification , storage and transportation of hydrogen makes it realized for the hydrogen storage and transportation in solid state, largely reduces the pressure of the hydrogen storage and transportation, improves the density of the hydrogen storage and transportation to that of liquid hydrogen, and greatly improves the security of the hydrogen storage and transportation because the desorbing speed of hydrogen is controlled by the desorbing temperature.
In the product, both the function of hydrogen recovery & purifying and the function of hydrogen storage & transportation are united together in the same device, we can use either single function or multi-functions. The application prospect of the product is very well because of the simple handling, the short procedure, the high efficiency and the good stability.
The small-scale devices are suitable for the hydrogen source of open-air analysis, hydrogen atom clocks, fuel cells and testing instruments such as gaseous phase chromatographs. The medium-scale devices can be used in these aspects such as the production of semiconductors for integrated circuits, refrigerators and powder metallurgy.
By now, this product of our company has already been successfully applied to the fields such as the production of semiconductors for integrated circuits, testing instruments, fuel cells and powder metallurgy in large quantities. The engineering level of the product has already reached the international most advanced level.
